Websites and other references

This subject covers some of the references I use often. There may be others, and the landscape of programming changes quite fast, so keep searching for your questions in Google or similar!

Before diving into all kinds of Internet resources, be sure to check the supplied Help Documentation!!! Even if it wasn't that good back in '93, it has gone through major work and all-in-all works like a real help system now. I tend to find more and more information in the Help files !!!

Resources

Resource

Description and links etc.

Google

The main search site at the moment. When your searching the net, be sure to also check the UseNet groups from the very same interface in Google. The Google UseNet search dates back to the early 90's and contain the old DejaNews archive.

Lotus Notes UseNet groups

You can search and access this newsgroup via Google groups. But you can also use other News-reader tools! Monitor the newsgroup comp.groupware.lotus-notes.programmer. This is the programmer-variant, so you can also look for administration

The Lotus Notes Developer Domain (LDD)

The former Notes.net site has become a focal point for all kinds of Notes and Domino information. IBM are finally getting the grips :-)

I often tend to search the Notes forums, which has been divided into two separate databases on LDD. The first covers Notes R5 and prior versions, while the second covers Notes 6.

If you use Lotus Notes, you might prefer to work with these database through the Notes client ? I find the searching and general feel of the databases more easy through the Notes client. See this article in LDD Today on how to set up your Notes client to work with LDD databases directly.

Be sure to monitor the LDD Today for high quality articles and the LDD Sandbox for all kinds of downloads such as half-baked applications, tips and howto's. Everybody can post applications here, so Lotus doesn't stamp for the quality!

SearchDomino

SearchDomino is a website that has a newsletter known for its infamous newsletters! Sometimes really good, and sometimes really bad!

DominoZone.net

The DominoZone is a cool little site with a very devoted staff. One of the staff-members is also a member of the OpenNTF-team cooking together all kinds of cool open source Notes projects. Also note the cool RC-Tips sections with all kinds of Notes related tips. Finally a nice forum with not-so-many questions, but with very prompt answers!

OpenNTF.org

This is the Notes variant of the open source communities often found on other platforms such as Linux. OpenNTF focus on open source and provide several interesting projects. It also facilitates a cool "codebin" where you might find just the code snippet you has been looking for. Watch out for the cool Domino based Bulletin Board system DominoBB!

The Notes FAQ

An old and good FAQ on Notes. Keysolutions Notes FAQ has been helpful on numerous occasions.

The Gary Devendorf page

Gary Devendorf is an old timer Notes programmer with huge experience in most areas of Notes developments. This site contains presentations and code from most of his numerous presentations on Lotusphere, DevCon etc.

The magazine Lotus Advisor

This magazine covers many areas and sometimes got really good articles. I subscribe!

The VIEW

The VIEW is known throughout the Notes community as one of the most advisory, thorough, and deep-diving magazines ever. With no ads (but a hefty price!) the magazine is a pleasure to read.

All depending on the current question or task, you'll probably wander from one resource to another. Make up your own reference list!
